Multiple Scams:

1. “University Employee Payroll Scam”.  This scam has already made its rounds in the United States and is now targeting Canadian Universities.  Although the threat to Acadia employees is relatively low, the use of this scam in conjunction with other scams is a cause for concern.

2. A related “Work-from-home Scam” is targeting University Students in the United States as well as Canadian Universities.

Technology Services is reporting that Acadia’s Faculty, Staff and Students could be targeted by the “Work-from-Home Scam”.  The ‘Work-from-Home scam asks students to set up a bank account on behalf of the scammer and send them the details.  The stolen bank account information is used for illegal activities, and the victims are responsible for the financial liabilities.  This scam is considered to be a form of identity theft.
