Service Alert: Security Vulnerabilities

Technology Services requests that all members of the campus community:

  1. Install all critical updates that are available for your operating system;
  2. Install Microsoft Office updates and patches as they become available;
  3. Install all newly released updates on mobile devices as soon as they become available; and
  4. Install updates more often than you normally would to ensure that you are capturing releases from vendors.



Over the past few days, more information has become available regarding the Meltdown and Spectre vulnerabilities, and Microsoft Office issues. These vulnerabilities allow attacks on your system in multiple ways: hardware, operating system and applications. Most operating systems and hardware, regardless of age of device, are affected. These vulnerabilities also affect mobile phones and tablets.

Vendors are currently releasing updates to address these issues. The timing of the releases will depend on your computer and your configuration. Technology Services will pass on information as it becomes available.
