Service Notice: Password Reset and MFA

Changes are coming to the way you access your Acadia account.

Effective 2021 June 14, Microsoft’s Self Service Password Reset (SSPR) portal will replace the password reset system found in Acadia Central. Later in the year, Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) will be required to access Microsoft 365 and other resources.

Technology Services recommends that you register and enrol in advance. Early registration allows you to walk through the process at a convenient time.

ACTION:

  1. Register for SSPR using your current username and password: https://aka.ms/mysecurityinfo
    1. Read the SSPR Set Up Guide, watch the SSPR Set Up Video; or review the HUB Guides and Common Questions. You will be able to add email as a verification method on June 14.
  2. Request MFA (MFA Service Request). Follow-up instructions will be emailed to you.
    1. Read the MFA Set Up Guide, watch the Video Instructions , or review the HUB Guides and Common Questions.
  3. Get Help by contacting the Service Desk (902-585-4357 or 1-888-609-3330 or Live Chat).

What happens on June 14?

  • Not Registered? The first time you attempt to access your account, you will be asked to register and provide your security methods. You will not be able to continue without registration.
  • Pre-Registered? There will be no impact to your daily activities unless you provided only 1 verification method. At this time, you can also add an email as a verification method.

BACKGROUND:

Why switch to Self Service Password Reset (SSPR)?

If you forget your Acadia password or have been locked out of your account, you can use your registered Security Information and your mobile device to reset it.

Microsoft Self-Service Password Reset is easier, faster, and safer. It works smoothly when you are on campus, off campus, and on the road.  SSPR enables you to securely reset your University account password without contacting Technology Services for support. It also provides a much-needed solution: July 2021, Acadia Central will cease to exist and the current password reset feature will go with it.

How does SSPR Work?

When you set up your password or need to change it, you will first be asked to verify your identity by “acknowledging” it through the receipt of an email, text message, push notification or phone call.

What verification methods can I use for a password reset?

TS recommends using the Authenticator App. You can use the same verification methods for SSPR as for Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA). For SSPR, you can use:

  • Authenticator App (either push notifications or access codes)
  • Text Messages
  • Phone Calls
  • Email (After June 14)

At any time, you can update your verification methods at https://aka.ms/mysecurityinfo.

What happens if I need to change my password?

  • Before June 14. You can continue to change your password in Acadia Central.
  • Between June 14-July 16. If you require a password change, you can

(i) change it in both Acadia Central and SSPR, or

(ii) change it in SSPR and have different passwords.

  • After July 16. When Acadia Central is decommissioned, your network password, as set in SSPR, will be your password for access to all Acadia’s resources, including ACORN, Colleague, Self-Service Portal and Microsoft 365 Resources. To change in SSPR: https://aka.ms/sspr
