Service Notice: Password Services
Effective 2021 June 14, Microsoft’s Self Service Password Reset (SSPR) Portal will replace the password reset system found in Acadia Central.
Technology Services recommends that you register immediately. Early registration allows you to walk through the process at a time convenient for you.
Registration means providing at least two (2) methods to verify your identity. You can use the Microsoft Authenticator app, a non-Acadia email address, phone numbers, or text messages. You do not have to change your current password.
ACTION:
- Register with https://aka.ms/mysecurityinfo
- Getting started information: Step by Step Guide or Step By Step Video; HUB Guides and FAQs.
- Get Help by contacting the Service Desk (902-585-HELP or Live Chat).
What happens on June 14?
- Not Registered? The first time you attempt to access your account, you will be asked to register and provide your security methods. You will not be able to continue without registration.
- Pre-Registered? There will be no impact to your daily activities unless you require a password change.
BACKGROUND:
Why switch to Self Service Password Reset (SSPR)?
If you forget your Acadia password or have been locked out of your account, you can use your registered Security Information and your mobile device to reset it.
Microsoft Self-Service Password Reset is easier, faster, and safer. It works smoothly when you are on campus, off campus, and on the road. SSPR enables users to security reset their University account password without contacting Technology Services for support. It also provides a much-needed solution: July 2021, Acadia Central will cease to exist and the current password reset feature will go with it.
How does SSPR Work?
When you set up your password or need to change it, you will be asked to confirm or verify your identity so that you can change it. You confirm your identity by “acknowledging” it through the receipt of an email, text message, push notification or phone call.
For example, if you have forgotten your password, you can select “forgot password”. You will receive an email (or text, notification etc.) to confirm the request. Once confirmed, you can follow the change password process. Sound familiar? This process is similar to many other services that you use for your personal accounts.

What verification methods can I use for a password reset?
You can use the same verification methods for SSPR as for Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA). For SSPR, you can use:
- Authenticator App (either push notifications or access codes)
- Text Messages
- Phone Calls
- Emails
At any time, you can update your verification methods at https://aka.ms/mysecurityinfo.
What happens if I need to change my password?
ü Before June 14. You can continue to change your password in Acadia Central.
ü Between June 14-July 16. If you require a password change, you can
(i) change it in both Acadia Central and SSPR, or
(ii) change it in SSPR and have different passwords.
ü After July 16. When Acadia Central is decommissioned, your network password, as set in SSPR, will be your password for access to all Acadia’s resources, including ACORN, Colleague, Self-Service Portal and Microsoft 365 Resources. To change in SSPR: https://aka.ms/sspr
Why implement before Central is decommissioned?
Several changes to Central business processes are occurring with the ACE project. Registering at a time convenient for you will help with the transition.
