Service Notice: Virtual Private Network (VPN)

A VPN, or Virtual Private Network, routes all of your internet activity through a secure, encrypted connection, which prevents others from seeing what you’re doing online and from where you’re doing it. Basically a VPN provides an extra layer of security and privacy for all of your online activities.

At Acadia, there are several campus administrative services and academic software applications that require a VPN to access them while off-campus.  These include:

  • Ellucian Colleague
  • Webadvisor (TSOnline)
  • Informer
  • Network drives (i.e. S Drive)
  • Papercut
  • Remote Desktop

In a world in which we travel, hang out in coffee shops, or make use of free wi-fi, a mobile VPN ensures that you have a secure internet connection.  Setting up a secure VPN on your mobile device guarantees that, no matter how you connect to the internet, the information you send will be secure.

For instructions on how to set up the VPN for Acadia, please see the following HUB article: https://hub.acadiau.ca/TDClient/39/Portal/KB/ArticleDet?ID=246. Or go straight to your particular Operating System:
