Security Advisory: Phishing Attempt on Campus

There are reports of a phishing email that has been sent to many members of the campus community.

The email appears to have come from a student email, with the Subject Line: (no subject)

The Message indicates:

Due to the recent outbreak of the COVID-19 Coronavirus across the country, we have decided to offer a Work Online From Home Job with a pay of $500 weekly, please response with your direct cell number and Non Edu email where job description can be forwarded to, send them to my private email only (name@gmail.com). This is very important, so please complete this as soon as possible.

RED FLAGS:
The From Name is different than the email given in the text of the message and different than the sincerely signature.
There is no yellow CAUTION banner as it is likely from a compromised account.  
It is offering monetary compensation if you provide personal information quickly.

ACTION:

  1. If you have responded to the request, please report it directly to TS (https://hub.acadiau.ca/TDClient/Requests/ServiceDet?ID=188) or call the Service Desk at 902-585-4357.
  2. Report the email using the Phish Alert Button.  This reports it to Technology Services.
