Service Notice: Apple MacBook Air with M1 Processors

The recently released Apple MacBook Airs have a new processor, referred to as M1. The M1 processor does not support a Windows Operating System and is not compatible with some programs and software currently used on campus.

At the moment, new Macbook Pros still have an option for Intel core processors which are not effected by this change.

The following processes or software systems are currently known to be impacted:

  • FoodPro
  • Inspiration
  • Auto-Cad
  • The Bootcamp and Parallel processes that allow you to partition your MacBook Air to allow for a Window 10 operating system.

ACTION:

  • If you purchase a new device, please keep these restrictions in mind.
  • If you require a Windows Operating System in order to run any course required programs, please consider buying a MacBook Pro with the Intel core or a Windows laptop.
  • If you have an older MacBook Air, and are currently running a Windows Operating System and the above mentioned programs, there is no action required.
  • To verify the compatibility of additional programs, please contact the Service Desk.

As TS discovers additional programs, their corresponding HUB articles will be updated: https://hub.acadiau.ca/TDClient/39/Portal/KB/?CategoryID=13
