Service Notice: Cybersecurity Awareness Month

October 1st marks the beginning of Cybersecurity Awareness Month.  Like other organizations around the world, Acadia is helping raise awareness to the importance of cybersecurity diligence.

The line between our online and office lives is often indistinguishable. This network of connections creates both opportunities and challenges for Acadia, our stakeholders and ourselves.  Consider the following statistics:

  • Hackers attack every 39 seconds, on average of 2,244 times a day (University of Maryland)
  • There are over 10,000 @acadiau.ca emails reported as being involved in a breach (KnowBe4)

This increasingly connected world puts our data at risk and provides the focus for the 2020 Cybersecurity Awareness Month theme: If you connect it, protect it.

What to Expect?
Starting next week, you will receive a weekly email highlighting a different cybersecurity topic. Answer questions based on the emails, videos and posts found on Acadia Technology Services Twitter and Facebook sites for chances to win weekly prizes.

There are a variety of prizes, such as Yeti Mugs, Smart Key Locators and Backpacks. The grand prize is an Echo Dot.

Participate and your name is automatically entered into the draws. If you play each week, the more chances you have to win.

Participation is open to all students and employees.

For the initial week, consider using an Acadia Cybersecurity Awareness background for your video calls and meetings.  You can find them on the HUB at: https://hub.acadiau.ca/TDClient/KB/ArticleDet?ID=986

All Acadia employees are automatically enrolled in Cybersecurity Awareness training through KnowBe4. Your challenge for the month is to login and complete your training (https://training.knowbe4.com/login).

TS would like to thank our prize sponsors (Cisco, Dell & Fortinet).
